Good data organization and cleaning is the foundation on which data analysis rests. Tidy datasets are easy to manipulate, model and visualise, and have a specific structure: each variable is a column, each observation is a row, and each type of observational unit is a table.
This workshop offers an introduction to spreadsheets and data management best practices. Are you just about to begin gathering data for a project and want to set yourself up for success? Have an Excel spreadsheet that you will need to export to csv for data analysis in another program, or for import into a SQL database? This class is for you.

- Data formatting
- Common errors
- Dates in Excel
- Exporting from Excel
This workshop will not address statistics, plotting, or writing code in spreadsheet programs.
Please bring your laptop with any spreadsheet program installed (Excel, OpenOffice, etc.)
