A Very Short Introduction to GitHub

A Very Short Introduction to GitHub In-Person / Online

Have you heard about GitHub but aren't sure what the fuss is all about? In this workshop you will learn why version control is important and how it works, and have the chance to create and explore a GitHub repository. We'll go over some basic concepts, and you'll get experience

  • creating a GitHub account and public repository (website for sharing code)
  • create a commit (make a change) and a quality commit message
  • viewing git history to see changes to the repository and git diff to see changes to files
  • creating an issue in a GitHub repository
  • finding and adding collaborators in a repository

Audience: Faculty, students, staff, researchers, who have never worked with Git and Github.
